Halloween Ideas and Events in Richmond
Minoru Park's 40th annual Halloween fireworks festival, a 40-year pumpkin patch at Richmond Country Farms, Halloween Hoot at the Nature Park, and Richmond's fireworks rules.
Written by June Tam
Richmond has run a genuine Halloween tradition for forty years now, and it still centers on the same park. Here's what's on for 2026, plus a farm outing and the safety details worth knowing before the 31st.
The short version
- When: Halloween is Saturday, October 31. The City's Halloween season runs October 19 to November 1, with more than 30 events and programs.
- Minoru Park's fireworks festival: the City's free 40th annual festival on October 31, 6:30 to 9:15pm, with fireworks at 9pm.
- Richmond Country Farms: a working pumpkin patch with a tractor wagon ride and corn maze, open daily to October 31.
- Halloween Hoot at the Nature Park: October 24 to November 1, 10am to 4pm, by donation — the quieter option.
- Safety and the fine print: what Richmond RCMP and Fire-Rescue recommend, and Richmond's strict fireworks bylaw.

Minoru Park's fireworks festival
The City of Richmond's 40th Annual Halloween Fireworks Festival runs at Minoru Park, 7191 Granville Avenue, on Saturday, October 31, from 6:30 to 9:15pm, with the fireworks at 9pm. It is free. This year's theme is "Alien Invasion", with fire shows, acrobats, stilt walkers, an inflatable spaceship, carnival games and a space-themed costume contest. It's the closest thing this city has to a signature Halloween event, and it's genuinely City-run rather than a business promotion.
It is part of a longer season: the City's Halloween in Richmond page lists more than 30 events and programs from October 19 to November 1, each with its own times. The Halloween Family Skates at Minoru Arenas run on Friday, October 30, 6:45 to 8pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 5pm — come in costume and skate rental is free.

Richmond Country Farms
For the daytime half of the season, Richmond Country Farms on Steveston Highway has been running its pumpkin patch for more than 40 years — a tractor wagon ride out to the patch, a corn maze and farm animals, with a live band and a train on weekends. It is open daily until October 31: 9am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 4:30pm on weekends. Admission is $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends, plus tax, and children two and under are free.

Halloween Hoot at the Nature Park
Richmond Nature Park's Halloween Hoot runs from Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, November 1, 10am to 4pm, along the Pond Trail. It is by donation, rain or shine, with more than 35 inflatables and ten nature art installations — a lower-key option if the Minoru crowds aren't your thing, and one that leans into the park's actual strength.
More around Richmond
The City's list has plenty for younger children. The Steveston Tram Halloween Scavenger Hunt runs Tuesday to Sunday until October 31, 10am to 4pm, free. On Halloween itself there is Trick or Treat at City Centre Community Centre from 1 to 4pm for ages 3 to 8, the South Arm Spooky Skele-bration from 2:30 to 4pm, and Halloween storytime at Brighouse Library at 10:30am — all free. On November 1, Día de Muertos workshops run at the Cultural Centre ($5) and Cambie Library (free).
In Steveston, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery's Into the Deep undersea photo experience is free in the lobby, 10am to 5pm, until November 1.

Safety and the fine print
Richmond RCMP posts an annual Halloween safety reminder — the edition linked here is the 2025 one — with the usual advice: trick-or-treat in groups, agree on a curfew with older kids, and cross at marked crosswalks. Richmond Fire-Rescue's Halloween advice (from 2022, and still sound) leans practical: flashlights and LED candles over real ones, for the obvious reason.
Fireworks are the big one. Richmond's Fire Protection and Life Safety Bylaw bans possessing, buying, selling or setting off fireworks without a permit — including "safe and sane" ones — and there is no Halloween exception for residents. Fines are $1,000 for buying or selling and $400 for setting them off, and you can report fireworks to 604-278-1212. The Minoru show is the way to see fireworks in Richmond. See the City's 2024 fireworks notice for details; it is the most recent one, and the rules still apply.

Your Halloween at a Glance
Daily until October 31. Richmond Country Farms' pumpkin patch and corn maze on Steveston Highway.
Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, November 1, 10am to 4pm. Halloween Hoot at Richmond Nature Park, by donation.
Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1. Halloween Family Skates at Minoru Arenas — free skate rental in costume.
Saturday, October 31, 6:30 to 9:15pm. The 40th Annual Halloween Fireworks Festival at Minoru Park, fireworks at 9pm. Free.
The whole month. Costume assembly at home. It sounds trivial and it is the single thing that most reliably goes wrong on the night.
What Is Not Happening
Richmond does not publish a city-wide trick-or-treat hour or an official route, and there is no legal way for residents to set off their own fireworks — not even on Halloween. If you have seen a Halloween listing that is not in this article, check it on the organizer's or the City's own site before you go; dates drift year to year, and an old page is the most common reason people turn up somewhere closed.
The basics for the night are the same everywhere: go in a group, carry a light, cross at a crosswalk, and check anything unwrapped before a child eats it.
