The ice cream slot in Steveston is a seasonal business in a way most Richmond food is not. Between June and September the village fills with day-trippers from across the region, the queues near the dock stretch along the boardwalk, and a scoop shop runs flat out. In February the same block is quiet enough to hear the gulls working the water. Both versions are real. Which one you get depends entirely on when you come.
For a visit, park once, ideally on the residential streets north of Moncton rather than circling the village core, then do everything on foot. Dessert belongs at the end of the loop: Garry Point, the dyke, the boardwalk, then a scoop on the way back to the car. Children handle that order considerably better than the reverse, and so, if anyone is honest about it, do most adults. Seasonal shops in the village do shift their pattern between summer and winter, so check before promising anybody anything on a January afternoon.
