Continental Seafood Restaurant sits in Cambie Plaza out in East Cambie, where Richmond turns into low commercial blocks and light industry, and it works the Cantonese seafood and banquet tradition that families in this city still use to mark a wedding, a birthday or a graduation.
East Cambie is the release valve for the Sunday problem. The dim sum map has its center of gravity around No. 3 Road, and on a weekend that center is circling cars and long waits. Cambie Road runs east from Bridgeport across the middle of the island, well clear of the Golden Village crush, and the restaurants out this way tend to be roomier and less fought over.
Getting there is a drive for most people, and the area is not walkable the way City Centre is. The Knight Street bridge is close enough that plazas out here pull custom from Vancouver as well as Richmond. Weekend late morning is still the peak. Anyone organizing something for a large group should treat this as a phone call rather than a guess, since large-format Cantonese dining runs on set menus agreed in advance rather than on turning up and hoping for a table.
