About Yue Restaurant

Cantonese restaurant tucked into an Alexandra Road strip, quieter than the big banquet halls nearby. Dim sum is the draw at lunch: steamed dumplings, rice rolls and taro puffs made to order, with plenty of seafood on the dinner menu.

Lunch is when this room makes sense. Yue sits on an Alexandra Road strip where it is easy to walk past the door while hunting for something louder, and dim sum is the draw: steamed dumplings, rice rolls and taro puffs made to order rather than wheeled around under lids. Seafood carries a good share of the dinner menu. The price bracket lands in the middle of the strip, neither the cheap noodle end nor the live-tank end.

Made to order is now the standard at the better rooms, and it is a real improvement on the trolley era whatever nostalgia says. It is also slower. This is not a twenty minute lunch, and a large group on a Saturday does better building the wait into the plan than discovering it at the door.

The 8351 address is a couple of blocks east of No. 3 Road, within walking distance of Aberdeen station. Alexandra Road is not a street you can park on casually, and the surface lots along it turn over slowly once the evening gets going, so the train is often the easier arrival at dinner even for people who would normally drive. Quieter rooms like this one are the reason the strip rewards a second look. The banquet halls collect the attention and the queues, while the same food is being cooked at half the volume a few doors along, in a room where you can hear the person across the table.
