About Foody World

A big, cheap Asian supermarket off Sexsmith Road that stays open until midnight every night of the year. Locals go for aggressive produce and seafood pricing, a busy barbecue and hot-food counter, and restocking that makes late shopping worthwhile.

Shopping outside the four-to-seven crush is the single biggest improvement you can make to a grocery run, and it matters more at a Chinese supermarket than at a Western one. The aisles are busier, the selection is wider, and you will stop to read labels. Foody World sits on Sexsmith Road, the belt that runs behind the Golden Village malls roughly parallel to No. 3 Road, where retail turns into warehouses and back again.

A supermarket in this format is a different errand from a Safeway run. Produce and seafood are the departments that draw people across the city to stores like this, live tanks and whole fish included, and stores of this size usually run a barbecue and hot-food counter near the front, which is a real dinner option rather than a novelty. Bring your own bags and allow more time than the length of the list suggests.

Stock and pricing move constantly across every store in this category, so a flyer you saw is a starting point rather than a promise. The surrounding block is worth knowing too. Sexsmith runs through the least decorated part of the Golden Village, where a good deal of the city's actual food supply gets bought and sold, and a trip out here often turns into three other stops you had not planned on.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
