About Jade Seafood Restaurant

Cantonese seafood restaurant that moved from Alexandra Road to a larger room on north No. 3 Road. Dim sum runs daily with an early-bird discount before 11am, and dinner leans on live tank fish, crab and roast meats.

Round tables and live tanks set the scale of this room. Jade Seafood works the full Cantonese seafood format, with tank fish, crab and roast meats on the dinner side and dim sum as well, and it left Alexandra Road for a bigger space on north No. 3 Road in order to do it properly. The stretch above Cambie is a different animal from the strip further south. Bigger buildings, bigger lots, and restaurants built for large groups rather than for two people on a weeknight.

If your only experience of dim sum is a cart in a small room, a large Richmond banquet hall is a genuinely different thing and worth having once. Order sheets have replaced carts in most rooms this size, so you tick what you want and it arrives from the kitchen. Weekend dim sum fills up right across this city because everyone has the same idea at the same time, which makes going early less a tip than a survival strategy.

Tank fish is the part visitors underestimate. You pick the fish, it gets weighed, and the price is by weight, so ask what it will come to before you nod. That is standard practice across Richmond rather than anything specific to one restaurant. It still catches people out. The room sits at the Bridgeport end of the corridor, which makes it reachable on the Canada Line as well as by car. Dinner lands well above the noodle-shop tier, so plan it as an occasion rather than as a quick stop on the way somewhere else.

Lunar New Year in Richmond BC is not a parade you go and watch. It is two weeks of flower markets, a brutal grocery run, temple visits on No. 5 Road and a lot of booked-out restaurants. Here is how the season actually runs, and how to plan around the crowds instead of into them.
