Thrive Medical Clinic is a family practice in the Ironwood complex with onsite physicians and a small allocation of same-day appointments for urgent problems, and that allocation goes quickly. Calling in the morning beats turning up and hoping.
The range of what the clinic handles is broad: early prenatal care, Pap tests, travel and flu shots, ICBC and WCB paperwork, and telehealth for the things that do not need a room. That last one matters more than it sounds. A large share of the reasons people end up in an emergency department are things a family doctor could have dealt with, and Richmond Hospital's waiting room is not where anyone wants to spend an afternoon with a chest infection.
Ironwood is the retail cluster at No. 5 Road and Steveston Highway in the southeast of the city, with national retail alongside local services and a catchment covering the whole south and east of Richmond. It is car-oriented and honest about it. Transit out there exists but is slow, which is worth factoring in if you are unwell and weighing up the trip.
Finding a family doctor in this province is the genuinely hard part. If what you need is a doctor rather than a single appointment, ask directly whether the practice is taking new patients before you build any plans around it. The answer changes month to month, and asking costs one phone call.
