About World of Music & Arts

Steveston music school on London Road running one-to-one lessons on most instruments, alongside group classes and summer camps for kids, teens and adults. Low-key and neighborhood-scaled rather than a conservatory.

Getting there every week for a year is what decides whether music lessons work, which makes distance a bigger factor than a teacher's pedigree. World of Music & Arts is on London Road, within reach of most of Steveston and a good part of the Broadmoor and Seafair side of the city. One-to-one lessons on most instruments make up the core, with group classes and summer camps for children, teenagers and adults around them.

The address sits away from the boardwalk end of the village, in the quieter residential part of the neighborhood. That sounds trivial until you are doing a 4:30 drop-off twice a week in the dark and the rain, which describes most of a Richmond winter.

Neighborhood-scaled rather than conservatory-scaled is the honest framing, and for most families it is the right fit. A conservatory track suits a child who is already serious. A local school suits everyone else: the kid who wants to try drums for a term, the adult who quit piano at fourteen and has been meaning to go back ever since, the teenager who needs somewhere to be bad at guitar for a while before they get good. Summer camps solve the August problem that every Richmond parent has thought about by the middle of June.

Instruments are the other consideration. Most schools will start a beginner on a rental rather than a purchase, which is the sensible order, because a term of drums answers a question that a bought kit only makes expensive.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
