About HK B.B.Q Master

A tiny Cantonese barbecue counter in the Superstore plaza on No. 3 Road, long regarded as one of the best in the region. Char siu, crackling-skin roast pork and soy chicken are chopped to order over rice. Small space, quick queue, and it sells out early.

Roast pork with crackling skin is the benchmark dish for this entire category, and this is the counter people drive in from Burnaby for rather than settling for the shop nearer home. Char siu and soy chicken come over the same counter, chopped to order and served over rice.

The setting is the first thing anyone mentions. HK B.B.Q Master is a small operation tucked into the Superstore plaza on No. 3 Road, which is not where anybody expects to find one of the most respected roast meat shops in the region. The queue moves fast, the space is tight, and nobody is lingering. It sells out early, and that is the single most important line on this page. Treat lunch as a deadline rather than a target.

There is something worth respecting in a kitchen that holds a standard on volume, which is exactly what a roast meat counter has to do: the same product, all day, at speed, with nowhere to hide a bad batch. Most operations drift by mid-afternoon. Finding the shop is straightforward once you know the plaza and considerably less so if you do not, so allow a few minutes on a first visit rather than assuming it will announce itself from the road. Come early, come hungry, and order more than you planned to.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
