About Florist on the Fifth

Larger-than-average flower shop on No. 5 Road in east Richmond with a big cooler and long daily hours. Worth the drive for volume orders such as funerals, banquets and Lunar New Year, and for staff who walk you through the options.

Funeral flowers follow conventions that differ between families and communities, and getting them wrong is the kind of mistake nobody mentions to you afterwards. Having staff who will talk through the options properly is worth a drive to the east side of the city when you are making those calls in a bad week. This shop is set up for exactly that sort of order: larger than average, with real cooler capacity behind it, working the occasions a small neighborhood florist cannot handle.

Volume is the whole proposition. Funerals, banquets, weddings and Lunar New Year all arrive as orders measured in arrangements rather than bouquets, and a shop needs physical room to hold that much stock. Space is what east Richmond offers and No. 3 Road does not. Out here you can pull in, load a car properly and leave again, which the corridor makes almost impossible on a busy afternoon.

No. 5 Road out here runs past farmland, greenhouses and the long row of temples, churches, mosques and gurdwaras that gave the road its nickname. It does not feel like the rest of Richmond. There are stretches with no sidewalk and no reason to stop, so a trip here is deliberate rather than incidental. Lunar New Year is the one period to order well ahead instead of turning up, because demand across the city spikes in the days beforehand and orchids and lucky bamboo disappear from every shop at once. Plan a fortnight out and the drive becomes straightforward.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
