About Harold's Kitchen & Bar

A Westminster Highway bar and grill named after a regular who has eaten there daily for over thirty-five years. Big local wine, craft beer and spirits list, screens throughout and a patio. Opens early for takeout and runs through the evening.

The name comes from a regular, which tells you what kind of room this is going for. Harold's is a bar and grill on Westminster Highway with a drinks list that runs deep on local wine, craft beer and spirits, screens through the room for whatever is on, and a patio for the three months a year that Richmond makes patios worthwhile. Takeout is part of the operation as well, which widens who the place is for.

Richmond is short on the kind of bar you go to on a Wednesday for no particular reason. The city has plenty of restaurants, and plenty of places to drink attached to something else, but the neighborhood bar and grill, the one where staff know a regular's order, is thinner on the ground here than across most of Metro Vancouver. Prices are mid range, which is part of what makes a room like this repeatable rather than an occasion.

Westminster Highway through City Centre is a working road rather than a strolling one, lined with offices, older low-rise retail and towers going up in the gaps. A bar here draws a mixed weekday crowd of people finishing work nearby rather than a destination crowd, and that shapes a Tuesday differently from a Saturday. It also sits within reach of Brighouse Station and the Richmond Centre end of No. 3 Road, so getting home without driving is realistic, which matters more than most of what a bar can offer. If you want a sports night out in Richmond that is not a chain, the honest answers are few, and this is one of them.
