The strip mall across from the Richmond Public Market on Westminster Highway is City Centre at its least polished and most useful. Tsim Chai Noodles sits in that row, working the Hong Kong noodle-shop format that Richmond does at a level most of Metro Vancouver cannot match. The room is plain on purpose. You order, food arrives quickly, you eat, you leave. Soup noodles and congee are the spine of the style, and the whole format is built for speed rather than occasion.
That stretch of Westminster Highway sits a short walk from Richmond-Brighouse station and close enough to the No. 3 Road corridor that lunch folds into an errand you were already running. Older plazas along here put every tenant on one shared surface lot, so the crush lands at noon and clears by two. Arriving at 11:30, or after 1:30, avoids most of it.
This is a solo lunch place first. One bowl, a cup of tea, twenty minutes, and nobody minds that you are gone again. A group can eat here, but do not build a long dinner around it. The Public Market across the road is worth the walk on the same trip, and the blocks around it hold the kind of small food businesses that keep City Centre feeling like a working neighborhood rather than a retail corridor.
