About Hunni's Steveston Village

Small independent women's clothing shop on the main Moncton Street strip in Steveston Village. Casual and dressier pieces plus accessories, chosen in small runs, so the stock changes often. The kind of shop where staff remember what you bought last time.

Stock in a small shop turns over fast enough that what hangs on the rack in April is gone by June. That changes how you shop. You are unlikely to see three other people wearing the same thing at the same event, and equally unlikely to be able to go back for it next month. The sensible rule in a shop like this is to buy the thing when you see it or accept that it is not coming home with you at all.

Independent clothing survives in Steveston for reasons that have little to do with fashion. The village gets a summer tourist season, steady weekend traffic from the rest of Richmond, and a resident population that walks to Moncton Street instead of driving to a mall. That combination supports a handful of small retailers on a strip where Vancouver rents would have finished them years ago. Casual pieces sit alongside dressier ones and accessories, so it covers more than one kind of errand.

Moncton Street runs flat through the middle of the village, with the harbour a couple of blocks south and Garry Point at the west end, and it is the only shopping street in Richmond where browsing on foot is the natural way to do it. Staff in a shop this size remember what you bought last time, which is either the appeal or a reason to shop elsewhere. Summer weekends fill the street completely. Anyone crossing the city for an afternoon here should plan on the village rather than the shop, because one store is not the trip.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
