Mornings split cleanly across the island. In Steveston the cafés on Moncton Street and Bayview open early for fishing crews, dog walkers coming off the West Dyke Trail and the Garry Point regulars. In City Centre the Canada Line stations feed a commuter trade that wants coffee in under three minutes, and the towers along No. 3 Road keep the mall counters busy until mid-afternoon.
Then there is a third kind, which Richmond has more of than anywhere else in Metro Vancouver: the late-opening dessert café, where the coffee is almost beside the point and the room fills after nine. All three belong in this section, with posted hours so you know which one you are walking into.

Richmond rain does not arrive as a storm. It settles in for nine days. Here is the rotation I actually use when it does: the Oval, the Golden Village malls, the library and gallery at Minoru, Riverport with the kids, and why Steveston is better wet.
Richmond does not hand you a view the way downtown Vancouver does. What it gives you is sea-level horizons, fog on the dyke, working boats, and the No. 3 Road corridor after rain. Here are the spots I keep going back to, and when the light is right at each.
