Dim sum is where most people meet Kirin. The lunch service skews lighter than a lot of what is on offer nearby, which matters if your usual complaint about dim sum is leaving the table feeling like you have eaten a brick. Lighter does not mean smaller. It means less oil carried through the whole meal, and it changes how the last three dishes land.
The Richmond room belongs to the Kirin group and sits on Westminster Highway just off No. 3 Road. The cooking is Cantonese first, with some northern Chinese dishes on the list and live seafood tanks doing what live seafood tanks do. Richmond has more good Cantonese kitchens per block than anywhere else in the country, and that abundance makes the refined end harder to judge rather than easier, because the floor is already high.
Location does real work for a room at this price. You are a few minutes from Brighouse station and inside the City Centre grid, so a table of eight can arrive by Canada Line without anybody drawing the short straw on driving. This is also the register of restaurant people choose for a birthday, a business lunch, or relatives visiting from out of town, which means the weekend rhythm here is nothing like the weekday one. Phone before you arrive with a group. Walking eight people into a busy dining room on spec is how a good plan turns into a wait on the pavement.
