Anyone who has tried to work a full day from a cafe knows where it falls apart. You get coffee and background noise. You lose the ability to take a call, spread out, or leave a laptop on the table while you use the washroom. Milk + Honey Father's House is built around that gap, pairing a coffee counter with private rooms you can book, so a working session has somewhere to go when it needs walls and a door.
Richmond is short on this format. The No. 3 Road corridor holds a great many towers full of people working from home and a great many students, and comparatively few third spaces designed for either. Most cafes along the corridor sit inside malls, which is fine for forty minutes and difficult for four hours. A room you can shut is genuinely useful, and the Canada Line running down the middle of the corridor makes this reachable without a car from most of the city.
Being pet friendly indoors is the other thing that sets it apart. Richmond has good dog infrastructure outdoors, with the dyke trails and the off-leash areas, and almost none at all indoors. Somewhere you can sit for an hour with a dog beside you changes what an afternoon looks like, particularly through the wet months when the trails stop being an option and everybody involved goes slightly stir crazy. A counter, a door and a dog at your feet is not a combination the corridor otherwise offers.
