The Japanese head spa has changed what a day spa means around here over the past couple of years. It is a long, slow scalp cleanse and massage with the water, the light and the pacing all arranged around that one thing, and people who try it once tend to become tedious about recommending it to everyone they know. Richmond has more places offering it than most of the region does.
The room sits on Second Avenue, a block back from the village's busiest streets, which is a good sign for a spa. Moncton and Bayview carry the foot traffic and the noise. Second Avenue is where the businesses that do not need a window display end up. Think about what happens afterwards too, because the whole point is leaving relaxed and slightly damp with nowhere urgent to be. Steveston is well set up for that. The wharf is a few minutes away and the dyke trail runs from there in both directions, which beats getting straight back into traffic.
