Stepping outside after a facial and finding the boardwalk and the water instead of six lanes of No. 3 Road is the whole case for booking this kind of appointment in Steveston rather than in the City Centre. The waterfront end of Bayview Street is about as good a setting as Richmond offers for the category, and the afternoon on either side of the appointment is half the reason to go.

Build an afternoon around it rather than treating it as an errand. Steveston rewards that approach: the village is compact, Bayview to Moncton Street is a two minute walk, and there is enough around the harbour to fill the time before and after. Summer weekends are the exception, when leaving a car in the village becomes a real problem and foot traffic is heavy from late morning onward. A weekday morning is a completely different experience of the same few blocks, quiet enough that the harbour reads as a working port rather than as a backdrop.
