The recommendation to have a first check done inside the first year surprises people, and not every optometrist takes patients that young. Eye injuries are worth thinking about in advance too, since the alternative at a weekend is an emergency room and a very long wait for something an optometrist can often handle directly. Routine adult eye exams are generally not covered by the provincial plan here, so the cost question is a real one and entirely fair to raise on the phone.
