It was proximity and consistency, somebody five minutes from home who will cut a child's hair without ceremony and get everyone back out the door before the afternoon collapses. Blundell Hair Salon operates from the strip on Blundell Road doing exactly that, straightforward cuts for the whole family.
The useful wrinkle is that it also handles eyebrow threading and facial waxing, which is less common in the small west-side shops than it is up in the Golden Village. Combining the two saves a separate trip across the city, and for anyone already juggling a school run that saving is the entire argument.
Blundell Road is one of Richmond's main east-to-west arteries, cutting across the middle of the city between No. 1 and Garden City, with plazas at the intersections and residential blocks in between. This part of it is errand territory rather than destination shopping, and that shapes what to expect from any business along here: convenience, familiarity, staff who recognize regulars, rather than a salon experience with a soundtrack and a glass of something. Richmond has places for the second thing, mostly downtown. The other kind is quieter, far less photographed, and considerably harder to replace once it is gone.
