About CoM Vietnamese

Vietnamese restaurant on Alderbridge Way named for the Vietnamese word for rice. Broken rice plates, pho and vermicelli bowls served in a bright modern room, within walking distance of Aberdeen Station and the Alexandra Road strip.

The name is the Vietnamese word for rice, which tells you where the kitchen's attention sits. Broken rice plates anchor the menu at CoM Vietnamese, with pho and vermicelli bowls alongside them, served in a bright modern room on Alderbridge Way. Broken rice deserves more attention than it gets in this region. It is the grain that fractured during milling, historically the cheaper option and now valued for its own texture, and it takes on grilled pork fat and fish sauce in a way intact long grain simply does not.

Alderbridge runs parallel to Alexandra Road one block north, which puts the restaurant in an interesting spot. You are a short walk from Aberdeen Station and from the Alexandra strip, a densely packed run of restaurants that is overwhelmingly East Asian. Vietnamese cooking in Richmond tends to live just outside that concentration, in the plazas along No. 3 Road and the streets around City Centre, and it draws a mixed room rather than a single crowd.

This part of the city is flat, walkable and dominated by mid-rise development that went up fast over the past fifteen years. Aberdeen is the station you want. Driving works too, though the surface lots around here tighten during the weekday lunch hour. Lunch is when a room like this is at its best anyway, with quick turnover, a rice plate that is exactly the right size, and an afternoon that does not disappear underneath it.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
