About Five & Cambie Barber Shop

Named for its corner at No. 5 Road and Cambie, this is the neighborhood barber for East Cambie and the industrial pocket around it. Cuts, fades and beard trims without a long wait, phone ahead to check timing.

Most haircuts get decided about ten minutes before they happen, and a neighborhood barber is what that decision needs. Five & Cambie Barber Shop does cuts, fades and beard trims for East Cambie and the industrial pocket around it, named for its own intersection at No. 5 Road and Cambie. There is a real difference between a shop like this and the appointment-based salons in the City Centre malls, and it is not only about price.

Phoning ahead is still sensible. Small shops run on one or two chairs, and the gap between arriving at a good moment and a bad one is most of the experience, regardless of how the cut itself turns out.

East Cambie out that way is a mix of light industry, warehouses, agricultural land and a pocket of housing, with the highway close enough to hear on a still evening. Almost nobody in Richmond has a reason to stop at that corner unless they live or work nearby. Neighborhoods like that still need a barber, and the ones that last do it on repeat custom from a few hundred households rather than on passing trade.

Getting there is straightforward by car and awkward otherwise. No. 5 Road runs the length of Richmond's eastern side, past the stretch of religious buildings people call Highway to Heaven further south, and transit through this part of the city is thin. What you get in exchange is a corner where stopping is easy and nothing about the errand becomes a production.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC
