Somebody who has been cutting the same heads for years is the whole appeal here. Barbering across Metro Vancouver has spent a decade drifting toward appointment-only rooms with names set in serif type. South Richmond mostly did not follow. What survives around Broadmoor is a chair, a straightforward men's cut and a fade for people who live within a few blocks, which is a real category and deserves saying without apology.
The plaza at No. 3 Road and Williams is a neighborhood shopping center in the older sense: a grocery store, a bank, a few restaurants, the services people actually need within a short drive rather than anything a visitor would photograph. Barbershops belong in exactly this kind of complex. A haircut becomes one line on a Saturday errand list instead of a trip of its own.
Broadmoor sits well south of the malls on the No. 3 Road corridor, and the traffic here bears no resemblance to the Golden Village a few kilometres north. The surrounding blocks are largely single-family and townhouse streets built between the seventies and the nineties, which is precisely the catchment that keeps a plaza barbershop working. A shop like this lives on people coming back every five weeks. The whole arrangement is unglamorous, and that is a fair part of the reason it is still there.
