About Impulse Sports

Racquet sports specialist on the upper level of Aberdeen Centre, with a strong badminton focus plus table tennis and snowboarding gear. It runs the adjoining Yonex shop, and does racquet stringing, which matters in a city with a serious badminton scene.

A racquet strung at the wrong tension for your swing is worse than a cheaper racquet strung correctly, and most players who have only ever bought pre-strung off a rack are surprised by how much difference it makes. Stringing done in house is the service that matters most at a shop like this, because it comes with somebody who can talk through tension, string type and how often you ought to be replacing it.

Badminton is a serious sport in Richmond in a way it simply is not across most of Canada. Courts get booked out, children train properly, and adults keep playing in leagues well into their sixties, so demand for restringing and for equipment that was chosen rather than grabbed is constant. Impulse Sports works that market from the upper level of Aberdeen Centre, with badminton at the center, table tennis alongside and snowboarding gear filling the winter. It also runs the adjoining Yonex shop, which tells you where the focus sits.

Aberdeen puts all of this in the middle of the Golden Village on Hazelbridge Way, with a Canada Line station beside the building, so arriving with a bag of racquets over your shoulder is easy enough without a car. The upper level stays quieter than the food floors, which is a relief on a Saturday afternoon when the rest of the mall is at capacity. Ask about stringing turnaround before you leave a racquet behind, since it moves with the season and league play swamps the counter at predictable times of year.

The Night Market's final season is the loud story. The quieter one: free admission at the Cannery ends Monday, Britannia keeps summer hours through Sunday, and Steveston does sunsets better than anyone.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.

Terra Nova Rural Park and the West Dyke Trail

The West Dyke Trail is about five and a half kilometres of flat gravel between Terra Nova Rural Park and Garry Point, and I ride it most mornings. Here is what is actually at the north end, which way to walk so the wind is on your side, and why winter is the better season for it.
