About LA Grill & Bistro

A Blundell Centre bistro with a reputation for generous portions at low prices, run by operators with decades in Richmond kitchens. The menu mixes Western grill standards with comfort plates, and it draws a steady regular crowd.

Somewhere you can seat a grandparent and a seven-year-old at the same table without anyone being unhappy about it is a harder thing to find in Richmond than it should be. LA Grill & Bistro is that kind of room. The menu mixes Western grill standards with comfort plates, portions have a reputation for being generous, prices sit at the low end, and the operators have decades in Richmond kitchens behind them.

That combination is rarer than it sounds. Plenty of cheap food in this city is cheap because it is fast. This is the other model, where people who know what they are doing decide to keep the ticket small and make it back on the same customers returning week after week.

Blundell Centre is one of the last honest neighborhood malls in Richmond. It sits at No. 2 Road and Blundell in the middle of a grid of postwar houses and does the unglamorous work: groceries, prescriptions, garment care, a few places to eat. Nobody drives across the city for it. Almost everybody within a kilometre uses it weekly, and the businesses that last there last because the same people keep walking back in. Expect a full room at the hours when the whole neighborhood eats, and expect it to be quiet on either side of that.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
