About Pioneer's Pub

The neighborhood pub at Broadmoor Shopping Centre, with a full food menu, sports on the screens and an attached liquor store. It opens early, stays late Thursday through Saturday, and serves straightforward pub cooking to the surrounding blocks.

Walking distance is the whole point of a pub like this one. It serves the blocks immediately around it and not much else, which is a job that keeps getting rarer in a city where almost everything assumes a car. The mall it sits beside on No. 3 Road has been the center of gravity at the Broadmoor end for decades: groceries, the bank, the place your parents parked while you waited in the car.

The suburban pub format is a specific thing. It runs on food, screens showing whatever game is on, and a room that fills with neighbors, teams after a match and people who came on foot. South of the City Centre that combination is what keeps a place viable, because the alternative is a drive, and a drive changes the whole calculation on a weeknight.

Broadmoor is residential in a way the northern end of No. 3 Road is not. The towers and the big malls sit well up the road. Down here the street is lined with low-rise plazas, single family blocks and school catchments, and the options after ten at night thin out fast once you are south of Blundell.

That thinning is most of the argument for knowing this address. A pub within walking distance of a few thousand houses does something no restaurant in the Golden Village can do for the same people, and Broadmoor is one of the few corners of Richmond where the walk home is still short enough to make the whole evening simpler.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.
