A white-tablecloth seafood restaurant tucked into a heritage building on Moncton Street. Dinner runs nightly and brunch is weekends only. Worth booking when you want something dressier than the fish-and-chip windows down at the wharf.
Anniversaries and visiting parents are what this room is for. Steveston runs mostly on takeout windows, patios and casual pubs, which is fine right up until the evening you need somewhere to sit down properly with a tablecloth in front of you. Steveston Seafood House occupies a heritage building on Moncton Street and serves seafood in a straightforwardly classic register, without any apparent interest in reinventing it.
The heritage building matters more here than it would elsewhere. Steveston's old commercial core was built for a cannery town, and the surviving wooden storefronts along Moncton Street are the reason the village still looks like itself instead of like every other suburban high street. Eating inside one of them is part of what you are paying for.
Prices sit at the top end of what the village charges. That is the honest trade. If you want fish in paper, the wharf is a few minutes away and considerably cheaper, and on a warm evening that is the better call. If you want a proper sit-down dinner on this side of the city, there is not much competition. The restaurant sits a couple of blocks back from the water, so the sensible plan is to walk the boardwalk first and arrive on foot rather than moving the car twice. Village parking gets tight from late morning onward in summer, and the streets around Moncton fill in a way that surprises people who last came in February.

A small fine-dining Thai room on the Steveston waterfront serving a set menu at fixed seatings, Wednesday through Sunday only. Reservations are essential, and there is a Thai afternoon tea service on weekends. Expect a long, formal, expensive meal.
