About Takeya Sushi

A neighborhood takeout sushi counter on No. 1 Road, open since 2001. Rolls, nigiri and bento made to order, plus premium boxes from the Kyoto Takenoko kitchen next door. Mostly a pick-up-and-go operation for locals.

Knowing in advance that this is a pick-up counter rather than a restaurant changes the plan entirely. Rolls, nigiri and bento are made to order at Takeya Sushi, alongside premium boxes from the Kyoto Takenoko kitchen next door. You order, you wait, you carry it home.

Neighborhood sushi counters are one of the quiet strengths of west Richmond. The Golden Village gets the attention for Chinese food and Steveston gets it for seafood, but the residential west side carries a whole layer of small counters and takeout kitchens serving the streets immediately around them. They are not destinations and do not try to be. They are what you collect on the way back from the pool or the dyke.

Seafair sits between Blundell and Francis on the western edge of the city, with the West Dyke Trail running along its back. The geography out there is flat, open and quiet in a way the rest of Richmond is not, and the Seafair Shopping Centre on No. 1 Road is the local hub, holding a mix of everyday services rather than shopping draws.

Ordering ahead is the obvious move at the dinner-hour peak, particularly for more than two people, since everything is made when you ask for it rather than sitting ready under a light. Ask what the wait looks like when you call. A twenty-minute gap is easy to fill out here if you have the trail behind the plaza and an hour of daylight left in the evening.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.

Terra Nova Rural Park and the West Dyke Trail
