Hot broth suits Steveston in February far better than in July, which is the honest way to plan a visit down here. The village runs on visitors through the summer and on residents the rest of the year, and a small ramen shop belongs squarely to the second group. Bayview Street sits at the waterfront edge of the village, close to the wharf and the boardwalk, so a bowl here usually gets combined with a walk on either side of it. That is the right way to use the place. Steveston is compact enough that eating and walking fold into one another without any planning at all, and the stretch between the shop and Garry Point is a decent half hour in any weather.
Ramen is a slightly odd proposition in this part of Richmond, because the southwest corner is fish and chips country and always has been. What has changed is who eats in the village midweek. The residential blocks behind Moncton Street support a different kind of business from the ones facing the dock, and a shop working a narrow menu properly fits that shift.
Parking anywhere in Steveston is a competitive sport between May and September and completely straightforward the rest of the year. That alone argues for treating this as a rainy day plan. The village is quieter and considerably better outside the season, and hot broth is wasted on a warm evening at the dock.
