About Juvelisto Design

Working jewelry studio in Steveston Village where the pieces are designed and made on site. Custom engagement and remount work is a big part of the business, and they also run hands-on classes if you want to make a ring yourself.

A jewelry shop that makes on the premises and one that orders from a catalogue are different businesses wearing similar signage. The first can change a setting, rebuild a piece from stones you already own, or design something that does not exist yet. The second can show you a tray. Juvelisto works from a studio on Moncton Street where the design and the making happen in the same building, which is what makes the first kind of conversation possible.

Remount work is the part most people do not know is available. Inherited rings nobody wears, a stone from a piece that broke, a setting that suited 1978 and suits nothing now: all of it can be rebuilt rather than sold off for the metal. That takes a conversation and a bench. Custom engagement work runs on the same principle and needs lead time, so it is not a project to start the week before you need it finished.

Hands-on classes are the other unusual thing here. Making a ring yourself counts as a genuine Steveston activity alongside the boat tours and the cannery museum, and it is a better rainy-day plan than most of what this city offers in February. The village is compact and easy to spend an afternoon in, with Moncton Street through the middle and the waterfront two blocks down. Anyone bringing in a piece to rebuild should bring the piece itself rather than a description of it, because the stones decide what is actually possible.

The Night Market's final season is the loud story. The quieter one: free admission at the Cannery ends Monday, Britannia keeps summer hours through Sunday, and Steveston does sunsets better than anyone.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.

Terra Nova Rural Park and the West Dyke Trail

The West Dyke Trail is about five and a half kilometres of flat gravel between Terra Nova Rural Park and Garry Point, and I ride it most mornings. Here is what is actually at the north end, which way to walk so the wind is on your side, and why winter is the better season for it.
