About Overdrive Athletic Club

CrossFit affiliate on Elmbridge Way, about five minutes from Lansdowne station. Group classes, one-to-one coaching and drop-ins for visitors, with nutrition and rehab support attached. A good pick if you want programming over a big-box floor.

A gym you have to drive to is a gym you skip on a wet Tuesday, and in this city it rains for a fortnight at a stretch. Overdrive sits on Elmbridge Way, roughly five minutes from Lansdowne station, which makes it one of the few Richmond gyms genuinely reachable without a car. That matters more than it sounds. Friction decides attendance far more reliably than motivation ever does.

Coached group training and a big-box floor solve different problems. A monthly membership at a large facility gives you equipment and no plan, which works if you already know what you are doing and fails quietly for everybody else. An affiliate gym sells programming and somebody watching your form, and it costs more because a person is being paid to stand in the room. Group classes, one-to-one coaching, and nutrition and rehab support make up the offer here.

Elmbridge Way crosses the northern part of City Centre near the Olympic Oval and the river, in the pocket that has filled with towers over the past decade. Anyone staying near the airport or in a City Centre hotel should ask about drop-in access, since the alternative is usually a hotel fitness room with two treadmills and a rack of light dumbbells. If you have never done class-based training, the first few weeks are humbling and the coaching is the entire value proposition. Ask about the on-ramp process rather than turning up cold to a regular class.

The Night Market's final season is the loud story. The quieter one: free admission at the Cannery ends Monday, Britannia keeps summer hours through Sunday, and Steveston does sunsets better than anyone.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.

Terra Nova Rural Park and the West Dyke Trail

The West Dyke Trail is about five and a half kilometres of flat gravel between Terra Nova Rural Park and Garry Point, and I ride it most mornings. Here is what is actually at the north end, which way to walk so the wind is on your side, and why winter is the better season for it.
