The village has changed enormously in twenty years, with new buildings along the waterfront and a summer visitor economy that reshaped the whole core. Businesses that carry through changes on that scale tend to be the ones doing something straightforward with real consistency, and a haircut is about as straightforward as commerce gets.
Saturday mornings in July are the worst time to arrive anywhere in Steveston, and a barbershop is no exception, because the village fills with people who have parked once and are working their way along the street. A weekday is calmer by a wide margin. Anyone wanting a fade with a product recommendation and a playlist will find shops for that in downtown Richmond, where the format is newer and the fit-out is louder. This end of the trade is the older tradition, and it has quietly outlasted several rounds of the newer one.
