Say what you want out loud before you sit down, because a skin fade and a line-up are technical work and not every barber does them the same way. Alens Golden Scissors Barbers works from Chatham Street in Steveston, a block back from Moncton, where the village keeps the businesses that serve people who live here rather than people visiting for the afternoon.
A line-up holds its shape for about two weeks and then starts growing out, which is why people on that cut come in far more often than the once-every-six-weeks crowd. Budget for the frequency rather than the individual visit. It is also why the barbershop relationship in a village like this tends to last years: you are in the chair often enough that the person cutting learns your hair without being told twice.
Chatham sits a block off the tourist run, which keeps it clear of the worst summer crush, though a warm Saturday will still test the street parking. Walking in from the residential streets north of the village takes five minutes and solves the problem entirely. The block itself is a good picture of working Steveston: trades, services and small offices, with the boardwalk close enough that a haircut folds into a morning that ends at the water.
