Breakfast and brunch only, closing by early afternoon. The menu works Asian flavours into diner staples - ube lattes, challah French toast, breakfast ratatouille. No reservations are taken, so expect a wait on weekend mornings.
Anyone picturing a stroll down from Moncton Street has the wrong map. Breakfast Table sits on No. 1 Road, north of the village, on a route that connects most of west Richmond top to bottom. It is a short drive or an easy ride down and the bus runs it, so getting there is a five-minute problem rather than a real one. What it does mean is that this is not something you fold into an afternoon in Steveston.
Brunch has never been the institution in Richmond that it is on the east side of Vancouver, where queuing outside a room full of reclaimed wood counts as a Sunday activity. Here it is scattered, and the interesting versions tend to sit in strip plazas rather than on a high street. That is not a criticism. It is what happens in a city built around arterial roads and small commercial units, and you learn to judge a kitchen by the plate rather than the frontage.
Asian flavours running through diner formats is a very Richmond thing to do, and it is harder to pull off than it sounds. It works when the flavour is doing real work rather than sitting on top as a garnish. The versions that survive here are generally the ones that got that right, because the audience in this city will not be impressed by pandan for its own sake. Weekend mornings are the busy window for every breakfast room in Richmond, and a weekday visit is the easier plan if your schedule stretches that far.

Family-run Texas-style smokehouse near the far end of Bayview, turning out brisket, pulled pork, lamb shank and smoked chicken quarters. Portions are large and the lounge side pours beer and cocktails. A change of pace from Steveston's seafood.

A waterside eatery tucked behind the Bayview shops, best known for burgers and a brunch that runs all seven days and stretches to crab cake benedict, cabbage rolls, borscht and chowder. Casual and rustic, and easy to walk straight past.

Steveston's barbecue joint, smoking brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken in house with rubs made on site. Order at the counter, grab a craft beer, and watch the game on the big screens. Burnt ends and cornbread are the sides people come back for.

Fall is the best season in Richmond and I will argue about it. The dyke in low light, snow geese off Sturgeon Bank, pumpkin fields on the east side, bog trails nobody uses, and a proper indoor plan for the weeks when it rains for nine days straight.
