Family-run Steveston bike shop trading since 2007. Sells Giant, Liv and Marin bikes, rents hybrids, commuters and e-bikes for the dyke trails, and does certified mechanical work. They also collect and drop off bikes for service around Richmond.
The wind off the strait decides which direction you should ride first, and almost nobody thinks about it until the way home takes twice as long. Start into it. The West Dyke Trail runs north from Garry Point toward Terra Nova on packed gravel, water on one side and farmland or ocean on the other, and you can cover the whole stretch without meeting a car. Nowhere else in Metro Vancouver offers that.
Richmond is flat, which changes what equipment actually makes sense. A road bike is unnecessary here and suspension is beside the point. What works on the dyke is a comfortable upright bike with tires wide enough for gravel, and an electric assist if a headwind on the return leg is going to turn the afternoon from a pleasure into a grind. Rentals matter more than sales for visitors, and hybrids, commuters and e-bikes are the right fleet for this terrain.
Village Bikes trades on Moncton Street with mechanical work handled on site, which puts it at the natural start of a ride rather than a drive away from one. Pickup and drop-off for servicing solves the perennial question of how you get a bike with a broken drivetrain to a shop in the first place. Summer weekends in Steveston are busy enough that anyone planning to rent should sort it out before turning up. Ride north, turn back when you have had enough, and remember that the return leg is the one that costs you.
