There is not a hill on the island. That single fact explains why Richmond has more everyday cyclists than its suburban shape suggests, and why the bike trade here skews practical rather than performance: commuter builds, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and mudguards and lights that survive a Fraser delta winter.
The riding is genuinely good. The West Dyke Trail runs the whole western shore, the Railway Greenway cuts diagonally down to Steveston, and the dyke network loops most of the island with almost no traffic on it. Shops sit in the neighbourhood plazas, near Steveston village and along the No. 3 Road corridor, and most run a service bench. Listings note hours, rentals and on-site repairs.
