About Krusty's Bicycles

Independent shop on Alexandra Road selling road, mountain, electric, commuter and kids' bikes alongside components, helmets and cycling shoes. Repairs and tune-ups are quoted free up front, which makes it a straightforward place to bring an older bike.

The island is flat, the dyke trails ring its edges almost continuously, and crossing from Steveston to City Centre never involves a hill. That geography means a bike shop here serves a different customer than one in North Vancouver: commuters, families, e-bike buyers and dyke riders rather than people shuttling up a mountain. Krusty's Bicycles is an independent shop on Alexandra Road selling road, mountain, electric, commuter and kids' bikes, along with components, helmets and cycling shoes.

Repairs and tune-ups are quoted free up front, which makes it an easy place to bring an older bike. The awkward conversation about a machine that may not be worth fixing is much easier to have when the estimate itself costs nothing, and plenty of bikes hanging in Richmond garages fall into exactly that category.

The dyke has one genuine downside for equipment and it is the surface. Packed gravel and grit work their way into drivetrains, and a bike ridden daily on the trail chews through chains and cassettes noticeably faster than one kept on pavement. Regular cleaning helps. A mechanic willing to look at wear honestly and say when a cassette is finished helps more, because replacing a chain on time is cheap and replacing everything a worn one destroyed is not. Alexandra Road is otherwise a restaurant street, and it is quietest mid-morning, which is the easiest window for dropping a bike off.

Where Locals Actually Eat in Richmond BC

Nothing on Alexandra Road is a secret. It is just in a strip mall with bad signage and no patio, which is why visitors never find it. Here is how I actually use Richmond's plazas and food courts, which specialists are worth the drive, and when not to bother.

Terra Nova Rural Park and the West Dyke Trail
