Furniture buying in Richmond tends to start at the north end. The big showrooms off Bridgeport Road, close to the Knight Street and Oak Street bridge approaches, draw shoppers from across the region and carry the flat-pack and volume trade. Delivery from there covers the whole island easily, nothing in Richmond is more than fifteen minutes from anything else.
Away from Bridgeport the picture is more specialised: mattress specialists and modern showrooms along No. 3 Road, Asian-market and rosewood pieces in the Golden Village, and consignment and antique dealers scattered through the plazas and out toward Steveston. With a large share of the city living in towers and townhouses, small-space and custom-fit work is a real local specialty.
