Dozens of kitchens sit inside a five-minute walk of this front door, which is a rare thing for a hotel anywhere in the region. Most Richmond hotels sell proximity to the airport and little else. This one sits on Alexandra Road, in the middle of the densest restaurant strip in Metro Vancouver, and that changes the entire reason to book it.
Alexandra Road is why people drive up from Seattle or fly in from Calgary for a weekend of eating. Hotpot, Sichuan, Shanghainese, Taiwanese and dessert cafes running late sit shoulder to shoulder along a few blocks, and the lots behind those blocks are miserable at seven in the evening. Staying on the street deletes that problem completely. Walk out, eat, walk back, do it again the next day. The pitch is simple and it is a strong one.
The position works for the rest of the Golden Village too. Aberdeen, Yaohan and Parker Place are all a short walk or a single Canada Line stop away, and the train runs from No. 3 Road into downtown Vancouver in around half an hour, which makes it possible to use Richmond as a base without renting a car at all. That is unusual for a suburb built around driving. Anyone here for a flight should ask the hotel directly about airport arrangements, because a hotel's name and its actual shuttle are separate questions and always have been.
