A quiet, long-established Japanese restaurant on Second Avenue serving sushi, sashimi and cooked dinners. It runs separate lunch and dinner sittings seven days a week, takes reservations by phone only, and has free parking behind the building.
Ask anybody who lives in Steveston where they eat and the answer rarely matches what a search result suggests. The high-volume sushi trade along the No. 3 Road corridor works to a different logic entirely: fast turnover, long menus, a stream of people who will not be back next week. Village restaurants feed the same families for years and are not chasing anybody.
This one sits on Second Avenue, one block back from Moncton Street, and that block shapes a visit more than people expect. Moncton gets the foot traffic, the ice cream and the summer crowd coming up off the boardwalk. One street inland the noise drops away. Parking pressure eases slightly too, though July in Steveston is difficult everywhere and worth planning around.
Sushi, sashimi and cooked Japanese dinners are the category, and the thing worth knowing about the genre in this village is that it is built for sitting rather than grabbing. That suits the way Steveston works once the day visitors have gone and the place returns to the people who live in it.
Build an evening around the meal and the trip pays for itself. The fishing dock and the water are a few minutes on foot, Garry Point is a little further west, and the dyke trail runs from there in both directions. The shoulder seasons are the better visit if the choice is yours. Steveston in February belongs to the people who live here, and it is better for it.

A counter-service Chaoshan noodle shop that opened on Moncton Street in 2026, serving hand-pounded beef and pork balls in clear broth with rice noodles, white pepper and celery. A plain wooden room better suited to twos and threes than groups.

A no-frills Moncton Street chip shop that regulars rank against the wharf stands. Halibut, cod and salmon come battered to order with hand-cut fries, plus chowder and burgers. Small dining room, steady takeout trade, and less of a lineup than the waterfront.

A casual Greek taverna a block off the boardwalk, doing souvlaki, roast lamb, calamari and platters meant for sharing. It has been a Steveston fixture for years and is the neighborhood default for an unfussy family dinner with a glass of wine.
